Worksheet · The Five Sources of Meaning

The 5Cs of Meaning

Meaning isn't something you find — it's something you build, and it comes from five renewable sources. Once a month, spend ten minutes here and pick one small, concrete action for each. Specific beats grand. A coffee with an old friend beats "be more social."

Name:    Month:

Five sources, one action each.

That's a month with meaning built in. Don't aim to overhaul your life — aim for one real, doable thing in each of the five. Then go live them.

Connect
The people who make life worth it

Meaning is relational before it's anything else. Who have you been meaning to call, make things right with, or simply spend real, undistracted time with?

One way I'll connect this month

e.g. Call Dad every Sunday. Plan a real dinner with Sam — no phones at the table.

Create
Bring something into the world

Making things — however small — is how you leave a mark. A meal, a song, a chapter, a fix around the house, a plan you've only ever talked about. What will you make?

One thing I'll create this month

e.g. Write the first 500 words of the story I keep talking about.

Contribute
Serve something larger than yourself

Meaning compounds when it points outward. Where can you give your time, help, or generosity — no scoreboard, no return expected?

One way I'll contribute this month

e.g. Mentor the new hire for an hour a week. Volunteer one Saturday this month.

Cultivate
Grow a skill, a practice, a part of yourself

Tend your own garden. Pick one skill, discipline, or inner practice to grow this month — and protect the time for it before the month fills up.

One thing I'll cultivate this month

e.g. 20 minutes of piano, four mornings a week. Read one book on negotiation.

Celebrate
Savor what's already good

Meaning you don't pause to notice slips by unspent. What win, person, or small daily grace will you stop and truly appreciate this month?

One thing I'll celebrate this month

e.g. Throw a small dinner to mark finishing the project. Keep a nightly "one good thing" note.

End of the Month · Look Back
Optional — fill this in before next month's review
Which of the five did I actually follow through on?
Which gave me the most meaning — and which was hardest to make time for?
Meaning is a practice, not a destination.

Schedule next month's review now. You won't nail all five every month — but a life that keeps touching all five, again and again, is a life that feels like it mattered.
